Get Into Hospital Services
Case Study - Rebecca, 18, Unemployed 6 months
Rebecca, aged 18, from Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire participated in the Get Into Hospital Service programme which ran with East & North Herts NHS Trust in June 2009.
Prior to participating in this programme Rebecca had been unemployed for over 6 months, she has very few qualifications due to having an unsettled family life at the time she took her GCSEs.
She has been estranged from her mother and step-father since she was 16 and currently lives on her own in a small bed-sit. This has left her very low, and has issues around her health.
Rebecca bounced back in June she joined the Get Into Hospital Services programme. She said:
“I was referred to this programme by my job centre advisor, I had been unemployed for over 6 months and really wanted to find a job. I don’t have many qualifications and very little work experience and I kept getting knock backs, it really affected my confidence, this programme has helped me regain that confidence, I have learnt loads and had the best time!”
At the end of the programme in July Rebecca was offered a full-time position by the NHS as an apprentice clinic support worker at the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hospital is Welwyn Garden City.
“This programme has completely changed my life, I am now working in a job that I absolutely love and adore, and I have the opportunity to build a career within the NHS”
