Get Into Hospital Services
Case Study – Zoe, 18, Unemployed 7 months
Zoe, aged 18, from Letchworth Garden City in Hertfordshire participated in the Get Into Hospital Service programme which ran with East & North Herts NHS Trust in June 2009.
Prior to participating in this programme, Zoe had been unemployed for over 7 months, she has very few qualifications, very little work experience, and she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with her life.
She had moved out from home and was living in a hostel in Knebworth. Zoe said:
“When i joined this programme i didn't have much confidence in myself, i had had so many knocks i just thought what was the point!, Then my job centre advisor showed me a leaflet for the Get Into Hospital Services programme, i honestly thought it would be a waste of time but i was so wrong, over the past few weeks i have learnt so much about myself and working for the NHS, i have gained a qualification, I’m more motivated, and my confidence and self belief have really improved”
At the end of the programme Zoe was offered a full-time position by the NHS as an apprentice clinic support worker working in the Medical Admissions Unit at the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hospital is Welwyn Garden City.
“This programme has given me the chance to get myself a career, once I have finished my apprenticeship I plan to start a degree in psychiatric nursing”
