Events Stewarding Course – A Team East for Skills project run by Arts charity, Zinc
In partnership with Land of Liberty, produced by Parrabbola in partnership with Three Rivers District Council.

During May 2011, Zinc and Team East For Skills worked in association with Land of Liberty to train local volunteers to assist with staging the theatre production at the Rickmansworth Festival.

Bringing together members of the local community, Zinc provided an opportunity to gain and develop skills in event stewarding – stage management, costumes and props, sound and light, culminating with hands-on experience stewarding the community play ‘Land of Liberty’. Three days of activity, led by professional artists included front of house training, Production training (sound/ light and stage management) and backstage training (costume and props).

Participants worked closely with Zinc and Parrabbola to understand all aspects of a working theatre and the challenges faced. They also tackled and overcame personal challenges at the same time.
Comments from participants on the project include:

  • ‘It helped my confidence”
  • “I enjoyed the friendliness and sharing of knowledge. Very informative fun, good work”
  • “My best day of 2011”
  • “I didn’t really know what to expect from the training but it has been really good and I’ve learned so much”
  • “I don’t like getting up in front of a group but I felt that I could here”

Participants have gone on to volunteering placements and also got involved in other Team East For Skills events, continuing to improve their own skills and also using these skills and knowledge to assist others.
